Laure Many will take on the challenge of Pikes Peak with RD Limited!
Romain Dumas will not be the only RD Limited representative at the next Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 25. As in 2014 and 2016, the team will enter two cars, with a Porsche joining the Norma prototype already entrusted to Romain. After Vincent Beltoise and Raphaël Astier, it’s Laure Many who will have the opportunity to discover the “race to the clouds.” The French driver will be at the start of the 2017 edition in the Pikes Peak Open class, driving a 911 SC 3.0l Gr4 developed and prepared by RD Limited.
While Romain Dumas – the driver – will be attempting to take a third overall victory at Pikes Peak with the Norma MXX RD Limited, Romain Dumas – the team owner – will be entering a third rookie in the legendary American hill climb event. Laure Many will race in the Pikes Peak Open class, in which Romain holds the record since 2012, the year of his first participation. Luare will be the only female entrant in this 95th edition.
“Laure is taking on an incredible challenge and I’m proud that it’s with RD Limited,” said Romain Dumas. “Even though it’s sometimes compared with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Dakar or Daytona, Pikes Peak remains a unique event. You need to have courage, passion and be a little crazy! Few female drivers have taken on this legendary race. Michèle Mouton was the first to make history. But how many French men and women since? Laure has the chance to take part in this legendary event and we’ll be there every step of the way in hopes that it will be successful. She knows the 911 SC 3.0l Gr4 well, which will be an advantage in learning Pikes Peak.”
RD Limited driver since 2014, Laure Many began racing in 2005. Since then, she’s made several appearances in rally, most notably in the French Cup. A regular in major VHC events, she took two class wins in the Vintage Tour de Corse, and another at the Vintage Moroccan Rally. A regular in the Vintage Monte Carlo Rally with four participations, she has also won the Giraglia Rally.
“It’s an honor for me to be on the Pikes Peak entry list,” explains Laure Many. “Since joining Romain’s team, everyone has been talking about this incredible event. I love a challenge, and when Romain brought up the possibility of this project, I didn’t hesitate for a second. It’s an amazing challenge, relatively different from what I’ve known before, and I’m going to prepare myself to the max. I know I can count on a very professional team, a perfectly prepared car and a fantastic coach in Romain! Of course, I’m thinking of Michèle Mouton’s famous participations. She was a pioneer and a source of inspiration for many drivers. It will be a proud moment to be on the starting line.”
The Porsche 911 SC 3.0l Gr4 to be driven by Laure Many will carry the number 19, just like Raphaël Astier in 2016, when he was top rookie. The car will head to America in a few days while Romain Dumas continues to prepare the Norma MXX RD Limited in France. The prototype, entered in the Unlimited class, will have upgraded aero and several mechanical evolutions, developed in collaboration with Norma. The two entries will be equipped with Michelin tyres, partner company to Romain Dumas.
