The « RD Limited » Porsche 911 GT2 ready for competition !
After developing the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (type 996 and type 997) as well as the Porsche 911 SC 3,0l Gr4 entered by the Romain Dumas Rallye Team, Romain Dumas has tuned a Porsche 911 GT2 specifically for the French Hill Climb Championship! Developed under the « RD Limited » label, this GT is now ready for competition. The car will make its debut at the Bagnols-Sabran Hill Climb event driven by Christian Schmitter
Days after the FIA World Endurance Championship Prologue with the factory Porsche Team and the 919 Hybrid, Romain Dumas completed the shakedown of the Porsche 911 GT2 « RD Limited » at Pôle Mécanique in Alès, France. Based on the road version, this model (type 997) has been developed by RD Limited, a brand offering Porsche-specific accessories and parts for rallying as well as completed cars ready for competition. With the work having begun beginning 2014, the roll out was confirmation of the completed work.
« I’m thrilled after testing this Porsche 911 GT2 » said Romain Dumas. « It’s a beautiful car, but also a joy to drive ! We modified the car to adapt it to the specific nature of hill climbing events and adhere to the French Hill Climb Championship rules and regulations – which are very similar, almost identical, to those found in rallying. We used our experience in this discipline, even if there are notable differences. In terms of feeling in the car, I’m very happy. I think it’s the perfect weapon : with its turbo, the GT2 is powerful, and not always the easiest to manage, but she is more agile thanks to the evolutions we have brought to the car.»
For a regulated weight at 1360kg, the Porsche 911 GT2 « RD Limited » benefits from around 530hp. Although the engine has not been developed, the gear ratios are now shorter. Much work has been completed to further improve the car’s handling, notably with the use of « RD Limited » shock absorbers developed in collaboration with PKM Consulting. The ceramic brakes have been replaced with Endless brand steel brakes for better temperature control. In addition to a rollcage in partnership with Matter, two Recaro seats (passenger seats are required) have been added. The search for weight saving was also a primary focus. For the wheels, RD Limited kept the 19 inch rims in order to use the largest tires possible.
The Porsche 911 GT2 which is about to compete in the French Hill Climb Championship is the fourth model developed by Romain Dumas’ team. Raced directly by the Romain Dumas Rallye Team, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS type 996 and type 997, as well as the Porsche 911 SC 3,0l Gr4 can also be entered by other drivers. All of these models are also equipped with « RD Limited » parts and accessories.
This year, Romain Dumas will take part in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the third consecutive time with a Norma M20 « RD Limited ».
