ANOTHER PODIUM FINISH FOR ROMAIN
Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard finished
second in the second round of the American Le Mans Series championship. The
start was chaotic and the No 7 Team Penske Porsche RS Spyder was unable to avoid
contact with one of the Audis, the resulting puncture to the right rear tyre
dropping Romain to very last place. Far from losing heart, Romain, from the
Gard département of France, powered his way back up to 5th position. Then it
was the turn of his co-driver, Timo Bernhard, to do his bit and thanks in part
to several full-course yellow neutralisation periods, brought the Porsche RS
Spyder up into second place in the LMP2 class. Unfortunately the race was not
long enough to allow the two drivers of car No 7 to progress any higher. So
the Franco-German pairing finally finished the St Petersburg race in second
place in class and in fourth position overall. This result puts Romain and Timo
in the lead of the championship with 35 points. There is no doubt that they
will do everything possible to keep this lead at the next round at Long Beach
in two weeks time. Photo:
