No haste, lots of speed - Romain Dumas shows his class at Long Beach

 15 avril 2007
A clever choice of strategy…, determination…, superb management of pit-stops…, the pace of the drivers on the track… and a second historic win… are some of the accolades being used by many commentators after the Long Beach race.

Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard have in effect scored a great result at Long Beach. After Mid-Ohio in 2006, it is the second time that Romain has claimed an overall victory in the American Le Mans Series.

It  was an astute decision to bring forward the refuelling stop during the first Safety Car intervention. Equally inspired was the choice of tyre which allowed the No 7 Porsche RS Spyder to run the whole race with just one set of tyres. This was the strategy that allowed Romain to cross the line in first place and to stand on the top step of the podium. “It was a difficult race” said Romain. “Timo got a good start and kept us in the hunt. It was bit like Mid-Ohio last year where I was able to conserve the tyres over a stint and a half. So we decided to take a risk and that gave us the win

The first place at Long Beach reinforced the two drivers’ position at the top of the Drivers Championship ahead of the next race which will take place at Houston next weekend.
