Victory for Romain Dumas

Yesterday Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard again triumphed in the overall results in the American Le Mans Series round at Road America. The Team Penske No 7 Porsche RS Spyder also performed perfectly in the qualifying sessions before the race. Romain started the race from pole position in the LMP2 class and had a trouble-free stint and was in the class lead just before a huge storm hit the Elkhart Lake circuit. The weather conditions were so bad that the race continued under full-course yellows for an hour and all the teams had to modify their race strategies.

The susbsequent rush to refuel and change tyres was intense. The Penske crew attending the No 7 Porsche RS Spyder proved to be the quickest and this allowed Timo Bernhard to rejoin the race in first place. He remained in the lead and crossed the finishing line in first place overall.

A perfect car, perfect pit-stop work, perfect race strategy, weather conditions which were not unfavourable to them and a pair of drivers who made no errors but who were quick whatever the state of the track - this allowed Romain and Timo to dominate the race at Road America, and thus to conserve their lead at the head of the championship. The objective of widening the gap to the crew of the No 6 car was also achieved.
