12 hours and a podium for Romain
Dumas
The
first stage of this event passed without problem for the Penske Motorsport Porsche
RS Spyder No 7 driven by Romain Dumas, Timo Bernhard and Helio Castroneves.
Romain was even at the top of the overall classification in qualifying for the
race. The second part went quite differently. Electrical problems meant that
the mechanics had a lot of extra work to do at every stop, which dropped the
No 7 car far down the field. Romain did his best to get back up with the leaders,
setting lap times on a par with those of the best LMP1 entries. He set a lap
record time of 1’46.638” which showed the full potential of the RS Spyder.
The
Penske team, helped by Porsche engineers, did their utmost to get the No 7 car
to the finish.
Romain crossed the finish line in third position in the
LMP2 class; a good result in view of the circumstances. This 3rd place gained
Romain 19 precious points in his championship campaign.
