The
first pole position of the year for the Porsche RS Spyder. By setting the fastest
time overall in qualifying, Romain Dumas scored a terrific coup in St Petersburg.
It’s here on this street circuit on Saturday that the second round of the American
Le Mans series will take place. The second RS Spyder entered by Penske Motorsport,
driven by Ryan Briscoe, set second fastest time, just 15/100ths behind. So both
RS Spyders will start from the front row of the grid. A first for the
championship and a huge advantage at the start of the race.(Extract from the Porsche press release) Romain
Dumas said: “It’s a fantastic
result and gives us a great starting position for the race. It’s very important
for us to have both our cars on the front row because it’s not easy to overtake
on this very narrow circuit. The run up to the first corner will certainly be
close and it’s a real advantage to have your team-mate alongside you”.
Romain Dumas’ time, set in just two laps, was 1:03.039 over the 2.925 km track.
